Creating

RJ Lavallee. That’s me. I’ve been creating all of my life — literally for as long as I can remember. The journey started with Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, and Legos and then moved on to carpentry, fiberglass, and wordsmithing. What will the next ten or fifteen years bring? More wood. More words.

Wood

Since 2016 I’ve been volunteering at Mystic Seaport Museam, in Mystic, CT, absorbing tidbits from an amazing group of shipwrights. But it’s not just about how to put together a boat. Furniture. Home accessories. Joinery in general. And don’t get me started about traditional Japanese joinery.

Words

In some forms of martial arts you learn that earning a black belt means you now know enough to begin your journey of mastering that martial art. In 1996 I received an MFA in creative writing, and had learned enough to know I had a lot to learn and I’m still learning.
